Release Date: 31st August 2026
This dataset has been made available by Ahmed Pirzada, an Associate Professor at the University of Bristol and an EAG member.
The dataset includes data on custom duties, additional custom duties, and regulatory duties at HS 8-digit level as reported by the FBR. It also includes data on Pakistan’s imports and exports at the HS 6-digit level which is taken from the CEPII-BACI dataset. The only exception is the data on petroleum products was is taken from the UN COMTRADE since the BACI data on petroleum imports could not be matched to the relevant tariff lines published by the FBR. Finally, the dataset also includes data on elasticities at HS 6-digit level. The three different estimates for elasticities are based the medina for the world, the median for low and middle income countries (LMIC), and the estimate for Pakistan. In our view, the most relevant estimate is the one based on the median for the LMIC. This is due to the country-level elasticities being poorly estimated and reflecting significant statistical noise.
The data is for the years 2024 and 2025. Dr. Pirzada has used this data to calculate different measures of trade restrictiveness indices at HS 2-digit level and made these available as part of this data release.

The replication package has been made available by Ahmed Pirzada, an Associate Professor at the University of Bristol and an EAG member.
The replication package includes data on input-output tables from the ADB and the Python code that produces the figures in the EAG Brief 9 on Pakistan’s sectoral linkages. The document in the Theory folder, decomposition_algebra, introduces basic algebraic techniques used to analyse the input-output structure of the economy. See the ReadMe file in the replication package for details.
