Economic Advisory Group

EAG clarifies its independent status after the establishment of group by similar name by the government

Responding to the announcement of formation of a “Macro-Economic Advisory Group” by the Government of Pakistan, the independent Economic Advisory Group (EAG) has issued a clarification.

The Economic Advisory Group (EAG) is an independent group of economists, policy analysts, financial experts, and academics to deliberate on Pakistan’s economic policies. EAG was constituted in January 2021 under the auspices of an independent think tank PRIME Institute which serves as its secretariat. Over the last one year, the EAG has been vocal about the economic developments in the country on different platforms such as social and print media. The views of EAG have been published by mainstream press and digital media on issues like monetary policy, taxation, industrial zones, central bank autonomy and new auto policy under the banner of EAG. The group has recently published a new framework for economic transformation of Pakistan under its name and is currently engaged in wider discussions with different stakeholders. These documents are available on EAG website, www.eag.org.pk.

The independent EAG has clarified that it is not related with the government formed EAG. It has expressed the hope of continuous and constructive engagement with the government, economists and other interested members of society. This press release has been issued as a matter of record only.
