New Chair Announcement

The Economic Advisory Group (EAG) has elected Dr. Ahmed Jamal Pirzada as the chairperson for the calendar year 2023. Dr. Pirzada replaced Syed Javed Hassan, who served as founding chairman of EAG for the years 2021 and 2022. EAG congratulates Dr. Pirzada on this new role and thanks the outgoing chairman, Javed Hassan, for his leadership in setting up the group.

Dr. Ahmed Pirzada is an Assistant Professor at the University of Bristol and is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK. Dr. Pirzada specialises in macroeconomics with research interests in understanding firms’ pricing decisions, production networks, financial frictions, and monetary policy. He has previously worked at the Queen Mary University of London, Bank of England, Cambridge Econometrics, and Planning Commission, Government of Pakistan. In his opening remarks outlining his vision, Dr. Pirzada emphasized the importance of democratization of economic debate through meaningful public engagements to create wider awareness about economic challenges the country faces and their possible solutions. He also appreciated the role EAG members continue to play on voluntary basis to further this cause and the support PRIME provides as EAG’s secretariat. Dr. Pirzada committed to strengthening EAG further to make it better suited to deliver on the agenda of democratisation of economic discourse.
